Verbal Communication?

Updated: May 14, 2019

Nowadays, society communicates to each other differently in texting, than in person. Apparently, verbal communication goes further than oral and speaking. It represents symbols used and put together to make a meaning. So that is how we came up with words and giving them a meaining behind them. but what about abbreviations? Nowadays, it sounds normal but when you think about it, In my current generation, abbreviations all carry slang to them(in terms of texting to one another) LMAO (laughing my ass of) LOl (laguhing out loud). There are words that are shortened versions and have meaning aside from what they actually are. For example "sus", is a common phrase used by teenagers when a person is showing signs of homosexuality. The origin of the word sus is from suspect or suspicious. It carries two meanings depending on the context it is used. Made up words such as thots, treesh are the common slang words used to call someone a modern day "hoe". These words, highly innappropriate, but are signs of how we make up words, or abbreviations and give them meaning. It is common for a new word to be made up everyday in todays society.
